University of Utah Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Merit Scholarship Recipient 2015-2016

The Merit Scholarship is awarded to a Utah resident undergraduate student continuing student in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. The scholarship consists of $2,500 for fall semester and $2,500 for spring semester. The PRT Scholarship Committee will evaluate applications and bring recommendation to the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism faculty for final selection. The name of the recipient will be submitted to the Financial Aid and Scholarship office of the University of Utah. A student may receive the honor only once. Awardees will have a minimum GPA of 3.5 at the University of Utah and in the PRT department and have a minimum of 20 credit hours in the department. This student must also be a Utah resident, registered for 12 credit hours for both fall and spring semesters, and be involved in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism activities or represent the college of Health, University of Utah or community activities.

Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society was founded by three distinguished Phi Beta Kappa members, professors, and administrators at the University of Illinois on March 22, 1923, to encourage and recognize high scholastic achievement among members of the first semester classes at the University of Utah. Phi Eta Sigma is the third most senior member of the Association of College Honor Societies.

Requirements
- Must have completed two or more semesters of employment with CRS
- Must have worked a minimum of 10 hours per week for the previous two semesters
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
- Be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours per semester and work a minimum of 10 hours per week during the year that scholarship is awarded
Principles and Standards
- Demonstrates strong leadership skills and the ability to assume additional responsibilities
- Has established themselves as a core member of the Crimson Crew with the potential to move into a leadership position
