Internship with SheJumps |
SheJumps is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping women get involved and progress in outdoor recreation. SheJumps provides opportunities for women to get involved with, or jump into recreation for the first time with the help of hosted recreational events. SheJumps also helps women jump up in recreation by providing many events that build network and social relationships. Lastly the opportunity to jump out, giving athletes a chance to share their inspiring stories and skills to newer athletes. Encouraging women to take the jump and try something new in recreation is what SheJumps is all about.
I have had the opportunity to work as an intern for the summer with SheJumps. During my internship I was given several tasks to help SheJumps stay more organized and make more money in the long run. Through this experience I have grown my skills and I am better prepared to work as a professional in the recreational world. Some of my major tasks include:
Planning a SheJumps Event
To grow my skills and better prepare myself for my future in the recreational profession my supervisor decided to allow me to create a SheJumps Event. I had the opportunity to generate an event idea, work with SheJumps staff members in planning the event, and bringing local organizations together and help foster partnerships with SheJumps.
The event I created included a partnership with the Boys are Girls Club as well as with the Friends of Alta. The event will take place at the end of August and will be a service project for the youth at the Boys and Girls Club. The service project will include a weed pull to help the environment as well as a hike to provide some fun for the youth.
Organizing T-shirt Inventory
After SheJumps spent money on purchasing 2,380 T-shirts, my supervisor Claire asked me to organize the inventory so it can be sold to customers online. This task required me to plan out how I was going to store and fit all the T-shirts into the SheJumps storage unit and purchase the materials required for the task. When I had calculated how I was going to dived and organize the shirts I organized the shirts into the storage unit. Each shirt was separated by color and style and stored into bins based on the shirt size. I did this with the help of a local volunteer who I was in charge of supervising.
Before the T-shirts went up online, I had to communicate with the SheJumps Regional Coordinators to see what shirts they wanted me to send them. I needed to collect their requests before I shirts went up online so they could have enough shirts to sell at their local events. This took a lot of structuring and planning so that I could get the coordinators what they want and not run out of shirts to sell to the online customers. Once this was done I fixed the inventory amounts online to reflect the current inventory.
Below is one of the document I used to organize this task. This document has each shirts listed and indicates what we have in our inventory, the number requested by the regional coordinators, what was given (if the amount varied from what was requested), and the final count that was put up online.

Below is a inventory count sheet I made to track the number of shirts that are currently in the storage bins. This way SheJumps can better keep track of what shirts are in the bins and how many.
