American Lung Association and their use of AIDA
AIDA is an acronym that stands for attention, interest, desire, and action. The ability to apply AIDA to a product or website will be a tremendous asset for a company. It allows your guests and potential customers to not only notice your product but to stay engaged long enough to be interested in purchasing the product or service. Being able to use AIDA is a useful skill and the first step to building this skill is to be able to notice excellent AIDA examples. I have found and analyzed a good AIDA example with the American Lung Association website.
Attention
When you first enter the website there are several items that capture your attention. The largest lettering on the website homepage states that they have been fight lung diseases like tuberculosis since 1904 and that research is the key to end this disease. Under the logo in large letters also states that they have been around for over 110 years which can catch people attention because they seem reputable. The website also has a clear navigational bar that is not cluttered under other material. You can see all that the American Lung Association has to offer and other services they provide. Lastly there is a background picture on the home page of group of people receiving mobile screenings for tuberculosis that can draw viewers attention because you can see how they help people.
Interest
As I mentioned earlier, the American Lung Association's website is clear and easy to read. The colors are simple and the graphics capture your interest without distracting you from the content. An example of how the site setup captures your interest is where they have a search bar asking the question "how can we help you?" If you are coming to the site to gain answers about lung diseases or are seeking for information then they have captured your interest on the top of the page. Under the Research heading they have indicated that tuberculosis is a threat here as well as around the globe. After they have grabbed your attention they continue to keep you interested by making you aware that there is a potential threat to our society as well as the rest of the world.
Desire
Once you have captured their interest you can continue to foster a desire to learn more about what they have to offer and how you can help them fight lung diseases like tuberculosis. The American Lung Association has done this by mentioning they have continuing research to fight tuberculosis. As you scroll down on the website they also have three sections where you can learn how to get involved with advocacy, become educated on the issues, and help in funding the research to fight lung diseases. These three sections get you interested in becoming more involved with the association because you now have different options on how you can contribute to this fight.

Action
The American Lung Association has many calls for action on the home page of their website. The first call to action is under the research section pictured below. The call to action in that section is the learn more button. After they go through all three stages of AIDA they end with giving you the chance to learn more on the subject and how you can help end this particular disease. They also have a chance for you to click on a link to submit questions that you have about lung diseases. Next to this they also have a live chat you can join. These two actions provide immediate help that their visitors can receive. The American Lung Associate is a good source for information on lung diseases and a place where people can find answers or help fight these diseases through research. It important that their visitors find fast ways to receive this information and their call to action at the top of the page helps in this manner.
My Thoughts
Overall the American Lung Association is an excellent example of using AIDA. They inform their guests of the services they offer in a way that gets the guests interested and willing to fight tuberculosis and other lung diseases. The only thing that I would change would be to provide a caption of the background image of the mobile x-ray unit for tuberculosis. This is a great picture that demonstrates how they are helping people and how they have been doing this for many years and I think that it could be made much more clear.
This is how I feel about the use of AIDA and how it can be an excellent source of attracting a customers to your product or service. I hope you found this blog post informational and I would love your feedback on what you thought of this AIDA example. Please feel free to send me a comment below. If you would like to leave more information you can send me your thoughts on my feedback survey. Thanks for reading this post and I look forward to hearing your feedback.
